In a metal loft bunk bed instead of using two single twin sized beds on top of one another, the lower bed is raised in the upper level and the lower level bed is completely missing. The upper level bed also has safety railing running all across the periphery for the child's safety.

If you have observed, most kids love to use the upper level of a bunk bed for most of the activities such as sleeping, reading, playing games or even eating.
